From Show Secretary Debi Gilbert: I want to say thank you to
all who volunteered at the first show of the year. Everyone was wonderful.
Your help did not go unnoticed. And because of your help this show was a
big success. You all gave of yourself to make this show
possible. With your continued help our next three shows will be great.
As you all know this was my
first time to do the schooling show and I was worried that I might mess
things up. But with your help and encouragement all went well.
I look forward to the May show. Thanks again!
TVDCTA May Schooling ShowOur
second show of the year was held on May 20th at Red Horse Ridge in
Brownsboro. Nina Warren “L” was
the judge. Like our first show in
April, there was a big turnout and the show organizers did another outstanding
job of putting it all together. Cathy
Zappe
had the highest dressage score of the day with 77.0% in her Intro B class and
was the High Score Award winner for Intro – Training and FEI.
Zappe and Miles scored a 65.5% in her Prix St. George class, a big
improvement over her initial attempt at the event in April.
Ashley Hayes won the First Level and Up High Score Award,
repeating her success from the April show.
Ashley scored a 66.9% in her First Level 4 test.
Show
secretary Debi Gilbert also had two very good dressage scores, a 73.0%
(second to Zappe’s 77.0%) and a 70.0% (first) in her Intro B and Intro A
classes. Deborah Schaffer did well
in her Intro B test, getting a 66.0% for third place. Among
the Jr. riders, Madeline Russell on Spookin’ Julie had two first places
and was the High Score Award winner for Intro – Training with a 64.0%.
Megan Zappe scored a 64.0% in her First Level 1 test and was the
High Score Award winner for the First Level and Up category. In
the combined training (CT) classes, Danielle Bolte had the best score of
the day, 26.0, in winning the Training Test A class while riding Captain Of My
Heart. Had it not been for 4
jumping faults, she would have scored a 22.0.
Bolte was the High Score award winner among Jr. riders for CT. Melissa
Pennington
won the High Score Award for CT for the AA division, scoring a 31.4 in the
Tadpole Intro B class on Excalibur’s Danza.
Candace Wheeler on Alley also had a good ride in her Prenovice
Test A class, scoring 31.6. Candace
also scored a 65.0% in winning her Training Level 2 class. This
was our first show after implementing some rule changes (see April TVDA Bits).

Barnes and Gilbert Win National Pas de Deux AwardDonna Barnes and Debi Gilbert have achieved First Place in the USDF national competition for Pas de Deux. They will receive their award at the 2006 Adequan®/USDF National Convention & Symposium Awards Banquet on December 2nd in Kansas City, MO.
The award is based upon the scores for Pas de Deux in recognized competitions, averaged together. Their final score came from competitions which included the Tennessean (where they had a fantastic 83.000%), Ole South Dressage, and Music City Dressage.
According
to Gilbert, "Donna
and I started to do this because every show that we went to together everyone
was always asking if we were going to be doing a Pas de Deux. So about a little
over a year ago we talked to Cathy Zappe about it. She thought that it
would be a great idea. She really helped us put the routine together and Kim
Holl has been super helpful with getting our music to match what we are
doing in the ring. We couldn't have done it without their help and
support. What's really nice is that my horse, Prince Bashir and Donna's Serr
Rafiq are half brothers and they get along very well. So it makes it easy
to do things with them in the ring. And of course Donna and I are really
good friends and enjoy riding together. Next year we're planning on kicking it
up a notch and doing a 2nd level Pas de Deux. We can't wait. It is a lot of fun
and a great learning experience for the horses.
Here are the final standings from the USDF awards web site:
1
Debra Gilbert & Donna Barnes 76.250
TVDCTA Schooling Show and Clinic with Jim Graham
The riding was judged conservatively, with only two riders earning scores over 65%. Natalie Weil, who won the High Score Award for Jr./YR Dressage - Intro -Training, had the day's best score with a 67.73%. Donna Barnes had the High Score Award in the AA Dressage - Intro -Training division with a score of 65.50%.
Unfortunately, the jumping portion of the CT classes had to be cancelled due to a lack of volunteers. Setting up the jumps is rather labor-intensive compared to dressage and the club really needs some assistance in this area if we are going to continue to offer CT events at our shows.
Results are now posted and will appear in the December newsletter.
